Today was another work day.
Students were reminded:
- Not to use AI overviews/generators/images at all.
- To find legitimate sources for information (as per previous discussions/materials)
- To cite images OR use Google Image search to find images for their ppt, but they must ensure they have clicked "tools" on the right of the screen, scrolled to "usage rights," and selected "Creative Commons licenses." If they have done this, the images are free for their use (and free of copyright) and do not need to be included in their reference list.
- To use their technology responsibly - Today's mix included one student playing games on his laptop, one student using his phone, and a third using Gemini to answer questions, rather than their own brain/specific sources.
Students are to have the work finished and handed in by the end of class on Wednesday.
This is truly challenging work. The connections students are looking to make are not all written in a text. Many students are not understanding that they cannot just ask an encyclopedia a question -They have to put what they know about the different topics into conversation with one another - to REALLY THINK - to find the connections themselves.
Students are more than welcome to make connections by talking with peers, talking with me, or going to writing lab to talk them out!
