Lesson 164

Students received their final project and groups!

We are seeking an answer to the question: What changes in European society shaped the modern world?

Students will be looking at several different areas over the next few days - They will meet with their groups, break down responsibilities for the block, and work through the idea of the day.

By the middle of next week, students will be in an excellent position to create a visual representation of the interplay between these ideas and how they answer the inquiry question.

Anyone who missed today's class can see the video that was shown HERE.

Lesson 162

We continued viewing The Princess Bride - remember to keep up-to-date and to connect it to your story terms!

Over the last two classes, with the exception of a few stragglers, have received their major literary paragraphs. It is worth taking a look at the feedback on these AND holding on to them for next year's foundation.

Lesson 161

We finished our final two presentations (Peasant Revolts & Attitudes toward the Church).

We had a discussion about academic honesty and what is lost when students aren't ensuring that all of the work presented is their own - when they are using tools to produce materials beyond their level of understanding and skill...

We began watching The Princess Bride and will use it to review story terms before doing our final project for the year :)

Lesson 159

Students worked in their new groups to create master presentations for tomorrow's class. It wasn't a flawless process, and many will need to come in a touch early tomorrow to finish up, but it was good!

Looking forward to seeing what they are able to teach tomorrow.

Lesson 156

 Today was another work day.

Students were reminded:

  • Not to use AI overviews/generators/images at all.
  • To find legitimate sources for information (as per previous discussions/materials)
  • To cite images OR   use Google Image search to find images for their ppt, but they must ensure they have clicked "tools" on the right of the screen, scrolled to "usage rights," and selected "Creative Commons licenses." If they have done this, the images are free for their use (and free of copyright) and do not need to be included in their reference list.
  • To use their technology responsibly - Today's mix included one student playing games on his laptop, one student using his phone, and a third using Gemini to answer questions, rather than their own brain/specific sources.

Students are to have the work finished and handed in by the end of class on Wednesday.

This is truly challenging work. The connections students are looking to make are not all written in a text. Many students are not understanding that they cannot just ask an encyclopedia a question -They have to put what they know about the different topics into conversation with one another - to REALLY THINK - to find the connections themselves.

Students are more than welcome to make connections by talking with peers, talking with me, or going to writing lab to talk them out!
