Today's class began with a lockdown drill. Students generally did well, but we did have to have a talk about ensuring we take all aspects of these drills seriously.
During today's block, Ms. Lew, one of their librarians, came to class to offer a talk on sources and citation.
All students received a handout on how to access reliable online sources via BC Digital Classroom, and another on how to create an APA references list (which will be the last slide in their ppt).
Students are encouraged to use Google Image search to find images for their ppt, but they must ensure they have clicked "tools" on the right of the screen, scrolled to "usage rights," and selected "Creative Commons licenses." If they have done this, the images are free for their use (and free of copyright) and do not need to be included in their reference list.
Students were also encouraged to use BBC, or BBC Bitesized as sources for information, shown how to find APA sourcing at the end of articles, and the program "BIB ME" which is an easy to compile and format sources.
